Employment With Other Texas Retirement Systems

If you were a member of the following Texas retirement systems, your service credit with that system may be combined with your TMRS service credit and allow you to retire sooner:

  • Texas County and District Retirement System (TCDRS)
  • Employees Retirement System (ERS)
  • Teacher Retirement System (TRS)
  • City of Austin Employees' Retirement System (CoAERS)
  • Judicial Retirement System (JRS)

In addition, you must have left your contributions in your account with that system. (TCDRS allows service credit even if you refunded your account there.)

You must notify TMRS if you have service credit with one of these retirement systems. To do so, call the TMRS Member Service Center. When you apply for retirement, TMRS will verify your other service credit.

If you did refund your account, you may be still eligible to combine your service time if your city offers Restricted Prior Service Credit. Visit the My City Plan page under the Members tab on tmrs.com or call the Member Service Center to see if your city offers this credit.
